Maiko Park is an expansive seaside park located in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. Its most iconic feature is the breathtaking view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, one of the world's largest suspension bridges, visible from nearby. The landscape is a beautiful harmony of deep blue sea and lush greenery, featuring well-maintained promenades along the coastline and wide-open lawn areas. The park is also home to a serene forest of approximately 1,800 pine trees, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful stroll.
The area surrounding Maiko Park has been known as "Maiko-hama" (Maiko Beach) since ancient times. It has long been celebrated as a scenic masterpiece, famous for its white sands, green pines, and the view of Awaji Island. During the Edo period, the famous ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige depicted the "Harima Maiko Beach" in his works, highlighting its historical status as a place of great beauty. The area's poetic charm has also been captured in the literature of renowned Japanese author Shiga Naoya.
The park is filled with photogenic spots. The most striking view is the massive structure of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge set against the horizon. Visitors can enjoy the contrast between the sea and the sky while walking along the coastal paths or relaxing on the lawns. The western section of the park is particularly famous as a premier spot for capturing the sunset.
Maiko Park offers a different charm depending on when you visit. During the day, the vibrant contrast between the blue sea and green landscapes is perfect for a refreshing walk. At dusk, you can witness the spectacular sight of the sun setting behind the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The park is highly accessible, located within walking distance of JR Maiko Station and Maiko-koen Station (Sanyo Electric Railway). The surrounding area also features various historical buildings and scenic coastal landscapes.
Since the park covers a large area, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. As the coastline can be quite windy, please bring clothing suitable for the weather. While many nearby facilities and transportation options accept cash, credit cards, or IC cards, English signage may be limited. Please check in advance if any specific facilities require reservations. To enjoy the scenery, we recommend bringing a camera to capture the changing light.
