Guide
Kyushu Nature Park African Safari, located in Hita, Oita Prefecture, is one of the largest safari parks in the Kyushu region. The vast grounds are home to a diverse range of animals, including large species such as lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, and zebras, as well as carnivores like bears, leopards, and cheetahs, alongside numerous herbivores. The park's signature style involves cruising through animal habitats in a vehicle, allowing visitors to feel the raw power of nature from a safe yet intimate distance.
The facility is operated with a strong emphasis on creating an environment that allows for the observation of animals' natural behaviors. Over the years, the park has focused on activities related to animal breeding, conservation, and the theme of coexistence between humans and wildlife. Rather than being a simple exhibition facility, the park features specialized areas that mimic natural habitats, ensuring that the animals can exhibit their instinctive behaviors naturally.

The biggest draw is the tour via the specialized "Jungle Bus." This rugged, reinforced bus allows you to enter the areas where animals roam freely. Through the bus windows, you can witness breathtaking moments, such as lions or tigers approaching the vehicle, or large herbivores like elephants and giraffes coming close by. For those seeking a more private experience, the "My Car Safari"—where you drive your own vehicle into the animal zones—is also incredibly popular, offering a personal way to observe the wildlife.
The park is open throughout the year, though animal activity levels change with the seasons. During the bright daylight hours, you are most likely to see the animals actively moving and interacting. Occasionally, special evening programs or seasonal events may be held. We recommend adjusting your clothing and gear according to the temperature and weather of your visit to ensure maximum comfort.

There are two primary ways to experience the safari: the "Jungle Bus" and "My Car Safari." The Jungle Bus is the standard way to experience the park, where a professional staff member guides the vehicle close to the animals. The My Car Safari allows you to navigate the animal areas at your own pace using your own vehicle, providing a more independent experience. The facility also includes various areas to learn about animal ecology and well-equipped rest areas for visitors.
The area surrounding African Safari is blessed with the beautiful natural scenery of Oita Prefecture. It is conveniently located near famous hot spring (onsen) destinations such as Beppu Onsen and Yufuin. This makes it easy to plan a perfect itinerary: enjoy an exciting safari experience during the day and relax in a soothing hot spring in the evening. It is a highly attractive location for a comprehensive Kyushu sightseeing route.
Since most movement is done via vehicle, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing. If you are using the My Car Safari, clothing that allows you to easily operate windows or shutters is ideal. Regarding ticket rules: Jungle Bus tickets are sold strictly based on the number of people actually present at the park, following the vehicle order. Please note that you cannot purchase tickets for people who are not physically present at the park.
