The Former Komoro Honjin is a historic building located along the Hokukoku Kaido in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture. It originally served as a Honjin and Toyaba—a high-class lodging facility for daimyo (feudal lords) and government officials, and a logistics hub for managing horses and travel arrangements. The main house and front gate are designated as National Important Cultural Properties, preserving the architectural styles of the late 18th to early 19th centuries.
Originally the residence of the Ueda family, this building served both as a high-status inn and a post station for the Komoro post town during the Edo period. It later passed to the Tamura family during the mid-Meiji era and was donated to Komoro City in 1993. As a vital hub on the Hokukoku Kaido, it hosted many travelers and officials. Currently, the building is undergoing preservation and repair work to ensure its historical structure is maintained for future generations.
