Kurusunose is a stunning scenic spot located in Hososhima, Hyuga City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Due to the relentless force of ocean waves, the rock formations have been split into a cross shape (known as 'Kurus' in Portuguese) stretching approximately 200 meters east-west and 220 meters north-south, with a depth of 10 meters. A particularly enchanting feature is that the shape of the reefs resembles the kanji character 'Kanau' (叶), which means 'to come true' or 'to be fulfilled.' This has earned the site a reputation as a place where wishes come true.
Historically, locals referred to this area as 'Jumonji' (Cross) due to its distinctive shoreline shape. As the area became a popular destination, the name 'Kurusunose' became widely established. The site is part of the Nippo Kaigan Quasi-National Park, and its name is deeply rooted in its natural formation. In recent years, its striking and unique landscape has even served as a filming location for promotional videos by domestic and international automobile manufacturers.
The most spectacular feature is the cross-shaped rock formation, which is most clearly visible from an aerial perspective. This breathtaking view, where the sea meets the jagged rocks, is a masterpiece of natural power. Additionally, the observation deck features the 'Kurusu Bell of Wishes.' This bell was installed by Hyuga City as a symbol for visitors to express their hopes and dreams.
Kurusunose is accessible 24 hours a day, making it a flexible destination. Visiting during bright daylight hours is highly recommended, as the 'Kanau' character shape and the dramatic cross-shaped topography are most clearly visible under the sun. Because the expression of the sea changes depending on the time of day, you can experience a completely different atmosphere depending on when you visit.
From the observation deck, you can observe the intricate shapes of the reefs floating in the sea. You can also participate in the tradition of making a wish through the 'Kurusu Bell of Wishes.' The surrounding area is an excellent environment for driving, allowing you to enjoy the scenic coastal routes as you approach the site.

The site consists of an outdoor observation deck and coastal areas. We highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. While there is no admission fee to view the scenery, it is useful to have cash on hand if you use nearby facilities. Please check local signage for any English-language information.
