Kuroshima Beach is located on Kuroshima Island, approximately 300m from the Sashiu Coast in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture. This location is deeply connected to a pivotal moment in Japanese history. In the spring of 1600, the Dutch ship "Liefde" drifted ashore on this very island. On board were the English navigator William Adams (known in Japan as Miura Anjin) and the Dutch pilot Jan Joosten. Their arrival brought significant technological and diplomatic shifts to Japan, as they introduced Western maritime and weaponry techniques. These figures eventually became influential advisors to Tokugawa Ieyasu, marking the Liefde's arrival as a major turning point in Japan's international relations and technological advancement.
