Kurosaki Church is a Catholic church located in Kamikurosaki, Nagasaki City. This site has a deep historical background, having been developed during the Meiji era by the French missionary Father de Rotz as a center for industrial promotion and social welfare. The sanctuary was constructed using bricks laid one by one by the local faithful, featuring a single-story structure topped with a traditional tiled roof. Inside, the expansive rib-vaulted ceiling and the light filtering through the exquisite stained glass create a unique, ethereal atmosphere. From the church grounds, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the Sumonada Sea.
The region holds a profound history of preserving faith during eras when Christianity was prohibited in Japan. The site was established under the guidance of Father de Rotz, and the current sanctuary was completed in 1920. The area is also famously known as a setting in Shusaku Endo's novel 'Silence,' making it a significant location for understanding the journey of faith and the literary history of the region. The accompanying bell tower stands as a symbol of the devotion and prayers of the faithful throughout the years.

The church is open for viewing from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We highly recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours; the sunlight passing through the stained glass brings the colors to life, creating a spectacular display of light and shadow. Because the church faces the sea, the changing colors of the water depending on the weather and time of day offer a constantly evolving and beautiful landscape.
