Kotohira-gu is a historic shrine nestled on the scenic Mt. Kotohira in Kagawa Prefecture. Long celebrated through the tradition of "Konpira-mairi" (pilgrimage to Konpira), it continues to draw many visitors. Upon completing the long climb up the stone steps to the Main Shrine, you will be greeted by a majestic sanctuary and, on clear days, a magnificent panoramic view stretching across the Sanuki Plain to the Seto Inland Sea. For instance, the Main Shrine, reconstructed in 1878, stands approximately 18 meters tall and is adorned with exquisite decorations that represent the pinnacle of the Tenpo era's artistic elegance.
