Komako Beach is a beautiful coastal destination located in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This beach has been officially selected as one of the '100 Best Beaches in Japan,' a testament to its natural beauty. Situated near the mouth of the Tedori River, the area features man-made breakwaters offshore that keep the waves relatively calm, making it an exceptionally safe and pleasant environment for swimming. Among the many beaches in Ishikawa Prefecture, it is highly regarded for its proximity to the railway station, making it one of the most accessible coastal spots for travelers.
The name of the beach is said to be inspired by its resemblance to the famous 'Maiko no Hama' in Hyogo Prefecture. The surrounding area is part of the Hakusan-Tedori River Geopark, a region dedicated to preserving the unique geological and natural environment. This coastline has long been cherished by the local community as a vital part of the region's natural landscape and cultural identity.
The greatest draw of Komako Beach is its pristine sandy shore and tranquil waters. Because the waves are significantly dampened by the breakwaters, visitors can enjoy swimming and water activities with peace of mind. During the peak summer season, the area often hosts temporary setups for events, adding a lively atmosphere to the coast. Official beach operations are limited to the summer season, typically from mid-July to August 15th. To make the most of your visit, we recommend arriving during daylight hours (between 10:00 and 17:00) to enjoy swimming and beach leisure activities. Please note that during the off-season, the specialized beach facilities and services are not operational.
During the summer operating period, swimming is the primary activity. Beyond just sunbathing and swimming, the surrounding area features facilities such as campgrounds and open recreational spaces. In the past, the beach has also been a venue for various seasonal events, making it a vibrant spot for summer activities and family outings.
The area around the beach offers more than just sea views. The Komako Campground is located nearby, allowing visitors to stay overnight and immerse themselves in the natural environment. Additionally, local landmarks like the Kuretake Bunko are within walking distance, making this a versatile area where you can enjoy both the sea and the local landscape.
When planning your beach day, please bring swimwear, sandals, and towels. While there are changing rooms and shower facilities available (some may require a fee), please be prepared. As this is a public natural space, it is essential to follow local etiquette: please take all your trash home with you and respect the environment. Since facilities may be closed outside of the official summer season, we recommend checking the schedule in advance.
