Komaba Park is a highly significant historical site located in Meguro, Tokyo. It preserves the "Former Maeda Family Residence," a masterpiece of architectural beauty designated as a national Important Cultural Property. The vast grounds feature both a Western-style mansion and a Japanese-style mansion that perfectly capture the atmosphere of the early Showa era. This space allows visitors to feel the development of modern Japanese architecture while enjoying a peaceful escape from the city. The history of this site traces back to the Komaba Agricultural College during the Meiji era. It later served as the Tokyo Imperial University's Faculty of Agriculture before becoming the site of the former Maeda family residence. The Western-style mansion, completed in 1929 (Showa 4), and the Japanese-style mansion, completed in 1930 (Showa 5), reflect the lifestyle of Japan's elite and the profound influence of Western culture during that era. The site also played a significant role in modern Japanese history, having been used as a residence for the Allied occupation forces after the war. In 1967, it opened as a Tokyo Metropolitan Park and is currently managed by Meguro City.
