Kodoimi Beach is a scenic beach located along the coastline of Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Its most distinctive feature is its location near the mouth of the Kodoimi River, where the river flows into the sea. This creates a diverse landscape where lush greenery, rocky shores, and river environments coexist. During the summer season, the beach is monitored by professional lifeguards to ensure visitor safety. Furthermore, the water quality is exceptional; it has received an 'AA' rating in the Shizuoka Prefecture Beach Water Quality Survey, one of the highest standards for water purity.
The local area has a long history of living in harmony with the Kodoimi River. Because it sits at the intersection of the river and the sea, the area has formed a unique topography that blends riverine and marine environments. The surrounding landscape is well-preserved, serving as a vital habitat for various rare plants and animals that thrive in the rocky and river-adjacent ecosystems.
At Kodoimi Beach, you can enjoy much more than just swimming. The unique terrain makes it an ideal spot for nature observation. Since it is a point where the river meets the ocean, visitors can enjoy activities such as rock pooling (exploring tide pools) and both river and sea fishing. The environment is perfect for observing local wildlife and plant life in their natural habitats. During the summer swimming season, the natural rock formations also provide a fascinating landscape for exploration.
The beach is open exclusively during the summer season, typically from mid-July to late August. During this period, lifeguards are stationed on-site during the daytime (9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) to provide a safe environment for swimming. We recommend planning your visit between July 13th and approximately August 25th to take full advantage of the supervised swimming period. The parking lot is available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This location allows you to enjoy the best of both sea and river activities. In addition to swimming, you can engage in rock pooling among the stones or try your hand at river and sea fishing. It is an excellent destination for those interested in nature study and observing the ecosystem near a river mouth. It is a versatile spot that caters to anyone looking to connect deeply with the natural environment.
Adjacent to this area is Toi Beach, which features a beautiful bow-shaped sandy shoreline. Toi Beach is one of the largest sandy beaches in West Izu and is known for its shallow waters and calm waves. The area around the Kodoimi River offers stunning natural scenery and is conveniently located near various local sightseeing facilities and accommodation options.
When participating in fishing or rock pooling, please wear clothing that can get wet and sturdy shoes suitable for rocky terrain to ensure safety. While changing rooms and water showers are available on-site, please bring any personal items you may need. Note that the parking lot requires a fee of 1,000 JPY per car during the summer; please bring cash for payment. To protect the beautiful natural environment, please ensure you take all your trash home with you.
