Kobayashi Bokujo is a specialized facility for Oi Keiba, located in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture. Established in 1965, it serves as a professional training center dedicated to the development and conditioning of thoroughbred racehorses. Unlike typical 'tourist farms' where visitors interact with animals or go horseback riding, this is a high-level professional environment. However, it is widely celebrated for its stunning natural scenery, specifically the approximately 700-meter long cherry blossom path that attracts many visitors every spring.
Operating for many years as a vital training hub for Oi Keiba, the facility is currently under the management of Tokyo Keiba Racecourse Co., Ltd. While it has historically had ties to the local community, it now functions as a disciplined, professional-grade training site. The facility includes 11 stable blocks (housing 268 horses), practice tracks, and specialized training courses, representing a significant part of Japan's professional horse racing culture.
The most iconic sight is the 700-meter stretch of cherry blossoms, featuring roughly 300 trees. You can enjoy various varieties such as Somei Yoshino, Yamazakura, Yaezakura, and Shidarezakura, each offering a different beauty depending on the season. In the spring, the area comes alive with night-time illuminations, creating a magical atmosphere. Visitors may also catch glimpses of the professional side of racing, such as horses in the paddocks or specialized racing buses passing through.
The peak season is from March to April during the cherry blossom bloom. During this time, it is highly recommended to visit both during the day for strolls and in the evening to see the illuminated trees and enjoy the local food stalls. While crowds can linger until around 8:30 PM, please note that schedules may vary based on weather and the specific year.
Please note that this is a professional training facility, not a leisure farm. There are no animal interaction programs or horseback riding experiences available for the public. The primary way to enjoy the area is by strolling along the cherry blossom-lined paths or relaxing in the designated viewing areas. During the spring season, the presence of food stalls adds a lively, festive atmosphere to your visit.
Behind the facility, you can find the Hiraoka Nature House and the Dosaku Kofun group, where you can continue to enjoy the natural landscapes of Inzai City. The surrounding roads can become quite congested during the peak cherry blossom season, so it is wise to plan your route in advance.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, especially during the spring season. Please use only the designated areas for picnics or resting. It is strictly prohibited to enter restricted areas, such as the actual farm grounds or any areas marked with 'No Entry' signs. Respect local rules regarding parking; do not park on the streets and follow the directions for designated parking areas to avoid disturbing the local community.
