The history of this site is deeply rooted in the legacy of the Kitabatake clan, who once held significant power in this region. In 1936, the site was designated as a National Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty. In 2006, it was integrated with the ruins of Kiriyama Castle, the former residence of the Kitabatake clan, and is now officially recognized as the "Taki Kitabatake Clan Castle and Residence Site (Kiriyama Castle Site)." This area served as a vital strategic and cultural hub for the samurai class in the past.
The most striking feature of the garden is its designation as a Place of Scenic Beauty. The space is designed to harmonize with the natural topography and vegetation, offering a sense of profound historical tranquility. Additionally, the adjacent Kitataike Shrine features a sanctuary dedicated to Kitabatake Akikane, known as the first provincial governor of Ise.
