Kishiwada Kankan Bayside Mall is a commercial complex developed as part of the Kishiwada Port redevelopment project in Osaka. The facility is divided into two distinct areas: the WEST and EAST buildings. The WEST building features a striking Western-style architectural design and serves as a hub for entertainment, housing a cinema, various sports facilities, and restaurants. The EAST building focuses on daily lifestyle needs, featuring a supermarket and various specialty shops. The name "Kankan" is derived from local culture, relating to the "Kankan-ba" (the viewing area for the famous Kishiwada Danjiri Festival) and the historical "Kankan-bakari" (scales used to weigh cargo at the port).
The facility was born from the revitalization of Kishiwato Port. The EAST building opened in 1997 as "Kishiwada Kankan," followed by the WEST building in 1999 as "Kishiwada Kankan Bayside Mall." Through various renovations, including a major update to the WEST building in 2018 to enhance its sports facilities, the mall has evolved into the modern destination it is today. The area holds deep historical significance as a site where cargo weight was once measured at the port.
In the WEST building, visitors can enjoy high-quality movies at United Cinemas, which features 9 screens, or engage in active fun at the climbing wall and skateboard park. Near the coast, you will find the "Ocean Circus" circular plaza, where the seaside promenade offers breathtaking views of the Hanshin Expressway No. 4 Wangan Line and the Kishiwada Ohashi Bridge. The EAST building is ideal for practical shopping, anchored by the supermarket Lopia alongside various clothing and lifestyle stores. The unique Western-style architecture of the WEST building is so distinctive that it is occasionally used as a filming location.
The facility generally operates from 10:00 to 20:00. During the daytime, the seaside promenade is perfect for a relaxing stroll in the sunlight. On weekends, you might encounter special events at the circular plaza. For an evening plan, the cinema and dining options in the WEST building provide a great way to spend your night. Whether visiting in summer or winter, the indoor facilities ensure a comfortable experience regardless of the weather.
Experience cutting-edge entertainment in the WEST building, such as watching movies with immersive-effect seating or testing your skills at the climbing wall and skateboard park. The combination of modern leisure facilities and the tranquil seaside atmosphere makes this a unique spot for both active and relaxing vacations. Taking a break while gazing at the ocean view is a quintessential way to spend time here.
The mall is adjacent to the Kishiwada City Namikiri Hall to the south, allowing visitors to combine a shopping trip with cultural events. To the north of the WEST building, you will find the wedding venue "Rivage Blanc." The surrounding area provides a wonderful atmosphere where you can feel the maritime culture of Kishiwada.
Comfortable, casual clothing is recommended for shopping and physical activities. The facility is highly accessible and features barrier-free designs, including wheelchair-accessible paths and restrooms. Please note that payment methods (cash, credit card, or IC cards) vary by individual shop. When taking photos, please respect the rules of each store and facility.
