A historic Tendai sect temple founded in the Nara period, Konze-ji preserves precious wooden Buddhist statues from the Heian era.
Located at the foot of Mt. Konze in Ritto City, Shiga Prefecture, Konze-ji is a significant temple of the Tendai sect. It is said to have been founded by the monk Ryoben by order of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period.
