Guide
The Kinosaki Ropeway is a popular attraction located right next to the famous Kinosaki Onsen hot spring town in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture. As you glide from the base station to the summit, you can enjoy a seamless transition from the nostalgic atmosphere of the Kinosaki streets to the grand, sweeping views of the Sea of Japan. The observation deck at the top offers a bird's-eye perspective, allowing you to see the beautiful harmony between the town and the surrounding nature.
Kinosaki Onsen is a historic hot spring town beloved by many writers and travelers throughout history. The ropeway serves as more than just a way to reach the top; it is a scenic experience that allows visitors to overlook the unique layout of the historic hot spring district and appreciate how the town has evolved alongside its natural landscape.

The main draw is the panoramic view from the summit observation deck. On clear days, you can witness the stunning contrast between the elegant curves of the Kinosaki townscape and the sparkling blue horizon of the Sea of Japan. There is also a cafe at the summit where you can relax with a snack or a drink while soaking in the view. The changing colors of the mountains throughout the seasons also make every visit a unique experience.
The scenery changes beautifully depending on when you visit:
For the best experience, we highly recommend visiting during the 'Magic Hour' at sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon and the lights of the town begin to twinkle, the view becomes incredibly romantic and unforgettable.

The ride itself is an activity—the sensation of gliding through the air is enjoyable for both adults and children. Once you reach the summit, take the time to capture photos at the observation deck or enjoy a relaxing moment at the cafe. It is a perfect way to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature.
The base of the ropeway connects directly to the main Kinosaki Onsen area. After your ride, you can enjoy the famous 'Soto-yu' (public bath) hopping or take a peaceful stroll along the river lined with willow trees. The area around Kinosaki Onsen Station is also packed with souvenir shops and local eateries, making it easy to combine a scenic ride with a delicious culinary experience.
Since the summit tends to be cooler than the town below, we recommend bringing a light jacket or shawl regardless of the season. A camera or smartphone is a must-have to capture the incredible views.
Credit cards are accepted, but having some cash on hand is always a good idea. No advanced reservations are required; you can purchase tickets directly at the base station. Please check the official website for the latest operating hours and details.
