Museum Ship Mikasa is a preserved Imperial Japanese Navy battleship located within Mikasa Park in Yokosuka, Kanagawa. This site has been selected as one of the "100 Best Urban Parks in Japan" and one of the "100 Best Historical Parks in Japan," offering a unique combination of historical significance and beautiful scenery. The park features a musical fountain and illuminated areas, allowing visitors to relax in a serene seaside atmosphere while learning about Japan's maritime history.
The battleship Mikasa played a pivotal role in Japanese history. Today, it is preserved and displayed as a museum ship, showcasing the naval technology and design of its era to modern generations. The greatest draw is the opportunity to step inside the ship and observe the actual interior and equipment used during its service. Inside the vessel, a video introduction to the Mikasa is played repeatedly to deepen your understanding of the exhibits. The park also features a bronze statue of Admiral Togo Heihachiro, an 18-meter monument, and a musical fountain that dances to music. At night, the area is illuminated, offering a completely different and enchanting atmosphere compared to the daytime.
Visiting times vary depending on the season, so checking the schedule in advance is recommended. From April to September, the site is open until 17:30. In March and October, it is open until 17:00, and from November to February, it closes at 16:30. During the summer months, you can enjoy special musical fountain shows held seven times a day. The evening illuminations are also highly recommended for a magical experience alongside the ocean breeze.

The theme of Mikasa Park is "Water, Light, and Sound," creating a harmonious experience of music and water that brings peace to visitors. Mikasa Park faces Yokosuka New Port and is surrounded by several facilities that reflect the local history. Additionally, boats to Sarushima Island depart from the nearby Mikasa Pier, providing easy access to the surrounding islands. The park is conveniently located about a 15-minute walk from Yokosuka-Chuo Station and about 30 minutes from Yokosuka Station.
Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for exploring the ship and the park grounds. Please note that certain identification regarding age or disability may be required for boarding. Children in elementary school (3rd grade and below) must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please respect public etiquette while enjoying the musical fountain shows and evening illuminations.
