Guide
Snow Resort Romance no Kamisama (formerly Kitashinshu Kijimadaira Ski Resort) is a premier ski destination located in Kijimadaira Village, Nagano Prefecture. Situated on the northern slopes of Mt. Kosha, the mountain is often referred to as 'Takai Fuji' due to its stunning, iconic shape. The resort is characterized by its vast, open-feeling slopes that cater to everyone from beginners to advanced experts. The resort's name is inspired by the upbeat and bright image of the famous song 'Romance no Kamisama' by singer Kamiya Hirose, providing a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.
With a history dating back to its opening in 1963, the resort has undergone several transitions. Originally operated under a village-managed system, it moved to a third-sector model funded by Kijimadaira Village in 1993. In March 2022, a plan was set to transition management to the private sector. Subsequently, in March 2023, the resort was transferred to the SBC Medical Group, which also secured the rights to use the name 'Romance no Kamisama.' This marked the beginning of a new era for the resort as a modern, vibrant destination.
The terrain features a wide variety of courses, including the challenging 'Pioneer Course'—an uncompacted snow area with a maximum gradient of 46 degrees descending from the peak of Mt. Kosha. Whether you seek smooth, easy slopes or wide-open terrain parks, there is a path for every skill level. Additionally, the area connects to 'The Kijima Snow Park' (formerly Maki no Iri Snow Park) near the lift terminus, allowing for even more extensive winter activities across a massive area.
The peak winter season runs from December to March, perfect for skiing and snowboarding. While much of the action happens under the bright daytime sun, some facilities may offer night skiing options. However, the resort is equally charming in the summer. Visitors can enjoy a different side of nature with BBQ, swimming pools, saunas, and breathtaking stargazing sessions. The ability to experience the changing faces of Mt. Kosha throughout the year is the true strength of this resort.
In winter, besides skiing and snowboarding, there is a dedicated kids' park, making it an ideal destination for family trips. For those traveling light, rental services are available for various items (though please note that some accessories like hats, goggles, and gloves may be for sale rather than rental). In summer, the resort transforms into an outdoor playground with BBQs, swimming, and sauna experiences, ensuring a seamless connection with nature regardless of the season.
The resort is located near other famous ski areas such as Nozawa Onsen and Banabi Kogen. The Mt. Kosha area is well-known for its beautiful natural landscapes and historic hot spring (onsen) towns. Combining a visit to the ski resort with a soak in a nearby onsen will make your stay in Nagano truly unforgettable.
For winter sports, please prepare high-quality thermal wear, a helmet, goggles, and gloves. Note that some small accessories (hats, goggles, gloves) are currently sold rather than rented, so check availability in advance. Regarding payments, please confirm locally if credit cards are accepted as many mountain facilities remain cash-heavy. For photography, please be mindful of the privacy of other guests. The facility is designed with accessibility in mind, including wheelchair-accessible entrances.
