The Kewpie Kobe Factory Tour (Open Kitchen) is an interactive facility located in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, centered around Kewpie's manufacturing hub. The biggest highlight is the opportunity to witness the production process of mayonnaise and dressings up close. The program is rich with content regarding knowledge of vegetables and eggs, as well as the philosophy of 'monozukuri' (craftsmanship) that the Kewpie Group cherishes. It is a perfect way to learn about the technology and dedication behind the products found on everyday dining tables.
As a brand deeply rooted in Japanese food culture, Kewpie has long been dedicated to the production and promotion of mayonnaise and dressings. This Kobe factory serves not just as a production site, but as an 'Open Kitchen' designed to communicate product safety and the joy of eating to consumers. It encapsulates the techniques and traditions of Japanese food culture, showing how natural blessings like vegetables and eggs are transformed into safe, delicious products.
The tour consists of three main steps. First, in the hall, you will learn about vegetables, eggs, and the history and philosophy of Kewpie. Next, through a video presentation, you will visually understand the process of how mayonnaise and dressings are completed. Finally, you will tour the actual production lines. A major draw is experiencing the energy of the manufacturing site while receiving explanations from staff. The tour also includes a tasting session to experience the finished products.
The factory tours are held in two sessions: Morning (9:30–12:00) and Afternoon (13:00–16:00). While the tours run year-round, please note that content may change due to production line status, natural disasters, or power outages. Because strict hygiene management is in place, the tour takes place in a clean, temperature-controlled environment regardless of the season.
The primary activities involve learning through video and demonstrations. This includes studying the manufacturing process via video and observing the actual production lines. You can also experience the appeal of the products through tasting. Please note that the tour is intended for elementary school students and above; children younger than elementary school age must be accompanied by a guardian.
Located in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, the area features the beautiful cityscape and port areas of Kobe. Before or after your tour, you can enjoy the local gourmet food and shopping in the vicinity. Access to the facility is easily available via public transportation from central Kobe.
