Kenritsu Shinrin Koen Myogisan Sakura no Sato is a massive park spanning 47 hectares in Gunma Prefecture. Set against the majestic silhouette of Mt. Myogi, the park is home to approximately 4,000 cherry trees representing about 45 different varieties. Because of this immense diversity, visitors can enjoy a wide range of cherry blossom displays as different species bloom at slightly different times. It is a beloved local destination where visitors can experience the shifting beauty of nature throughout the seasons.
The park was developed to preserve the local natural environment and provide a space for people to connect with nature. Situated near the historically and visually significant Mt. Myogi, the park serves as a vital part of the region's natural heritage. Through years of dedicated planting and cultivation of various cherry blossom species, it has established itself as a premier destination for viewing diverse cherry blossoms.
The greatest draw is the sheer volume of cherry blossoms—roughly 4,000 trees in total. With 45 different varieties, the blooming season is extended, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery over a longer period. The striking contrast between the colorful blossoms and the grand landscape of Mt. Myogi is a sight to behold. The vast grounds also offer various areas where you can observe diverse plant life and natural formations.
During the peak cherry blossom season (roughly April 1st to May 10th), the operating hours change from the standard 9:00–16:30 to 8:30–17:00. This is the most vibrant time to visit, as many varieties bloom simultaneously. Even outside of spring, the park offers beautiful seasonal changes in vegetation. For the best photography and walking experience, we recommend visiting during bright daylight hours when the colors are most vivid.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the vast natural scenery. Depending on the season, the park may host specialized events such as photography workshops or plant-dyeing classes, offering a chance to learn more about the local flora and natural processes. These activities allow a deeper connection with the changing seasons.
The area surrounding Mt. Myogi is rich in natural beauty. The vicinity of the park includes excellent areas for hiking and nature observation, making it a magnet for nature enthusiasts. Many activities in the region are closely tied to the seasonal shifts of the local environment.
Due to the vast size of the park, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please dress appropriately for the season. Regarding payments, please note that cash is the primary method for transactions at the management center; having Japanese Yen on hand is recommended. English signage and staff support are limited, so using a translation app is advised. For those driving, please be aware that parking usage may be restricted for non-tourism purposes (such as hiking-only access) during the peak blooming period (April 1st–30th). Dedicated parking for wheelchair users is available.
