The area surrounding the park has a long history of human coexistence with nature. The landscape and vegetation have been preserved to maintain the natural character of the Tama Hills. During the rapid economic growth of the Showa era, the historical and natural value of this area was recognized and protected. Specifically, the discovery of pit dwellings and food storage pits from the Yayoi to Kofun periods (approx. 3rd to 6th century AD) near the Ancient Grassland Plaza revealed that this was a significant settlement. Consequently, Kanagawa Prefecture designated the Higashitakane Ruins as a prefectural historical site and the surrounding Shira-kashi forest as a natural monument, developing the area as a city park that preserves these cultural assets.
