Taikozan Land is a prominent prefectural park located in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture. It originally opened on July 16, 1983, as the venue for the "Nippon New Century Expo." The park has been recognized as one of Japan's top 100 urban parks, offering a vast landscape surrounded by lush greenery and water. It serves as a hub for recreation, sports, and cultural activities, with facilities designed to accommodate visitors of all ages, from children to seniors.
The park was developed as a prefectural park to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Toyama Prefecture's establishment. Since its opening, it has served as a vital community space, earning a spot in the "100 Best Urban Parks in Japan" in 1989. The site has also hosted significant regional events, such as "Japan Expo Toyama" in 1992. Visitors can even find historical elements within the park, such as preserved railway vehicles that nod to its past.
The park is dotted with various recreational facilities. A standout attraction is the steam locomotive-style "Road Train" that circles the park, a favorite for both children and adults. Depending on the season, you can enjoy the waterfront plaza to the east, the summer pool area, or the dedicated BBQ corners. Additionally, the observation tower provides a wonderful vantage point to enjoy the expansive, open views of the surrounding landscape.
There is always something to do depending on when you visit. During the summer (pool operation period), the park extends its hours until 18:00, allowing for longer evening activities. In May and June, the park is a beautiful spot for viewing hydrangeas and participating in hydrangea-related festivals. There is no shortage of ways to stay active here. The Cycling Center offers rentals for mountain bikes and electric bicycles (excluding winter), allowing you to explore the vast grounds easily. You can also enjoy a meal at the BBQ corners, relax by the water, or participate in community events like stamp rallies. Simply riding the Road Train is an experience in itself, offering a scenic way to traverse the park.
The park is surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery of Imizu City, characterized by its proximity to the sea and agricultural landscapes unique to Toyama. While you can access the park via bus or train from Kosugi Station, the grounds are quite large. We highly recommend using a car or utilizing public transportation efficiently to ensure you can see all the highlights without too much walking.
Because the park is quite vast, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. If you plan on cycling or enjoying a BBQ, wear clothing that allows for easy movement. For the Road Train, tickets can be purchased via automatic vending machines or from the conductor. Please respect the natural environment and follow park etiquette. Additionally, please stay informed of any local notices regarding wildlife, such as bear sightings, if applicable.
