Kamegamori Rindo is a 27-kilometer paved mountain road located in Ino Town, Agawa District, Kochi Prefecture. It is affectionately known by locals as the "UFO Line." This name is said to be a play on words involving the frequent sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) in the area and the "Yūhō" (majestic peaks) that surround it. The route follows the ridge of the Ishizuchi Mountain Range, traveling through altitudes between approximately 1,300 and 1,700 meters. While the road does not have a center line, it is fully paved, allowing travelers to enjoy the high-altitude scenery comfortably from their vehicle.
This region is a vital geographical part of the Ishizuchi Mountain range. Kamegamori is a peak reaching 1,897 meters, and the surrounding area features monuments related to the headwaters of the Yoshino and Kamo Rivers, blending natural beauty with local history. The area gained wider recognition after being used as a filming location for a Toyota Corolla Sport commercial in 2018, highlighting its stunning landscapes. The area maintains a strong balance between preserving its natural environment and serving as a popular destination for driving enthusiasts.

The most striking feature of the UFO Line is the unobstructed, wide-open view. From certain points looking north, you can see as far as the Seto Inland Sea and even the Pacific Ocean. As you drive, you will feel the presence of massive peaks like the Ishizuchi Mountains, Higashikuro-mori, Nishikuro-mori, and Iyo Fuji, all reaching altitudes of around 1,800 meters. While there are no formal observation decks, various wide parking areas allow you to pull over and take in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Routes passing through high-altitude points like Shirasa Pass and Yosakoi Pass offer a truly unique high-altitude landscape.
The scenery changes dramatically depending on the season. In spring, you can see the blooming of Azalea and Rhododendron; in summer, the lush greenery is vibrant; and in autumn, the landscape is painted with brilliant fall colors. These seasonal shifts make it a perfect destination regardless of when you visit. However, please be aware that the road is closed during the winter (typically from November 30th to late April). It is highly recommended to check the opening status before your trip. Daytime visits are ideal, as the bright sunlight enhances the contrast between the blue sky, green mountains, and colorful foliage.
The primary way to experience this area is through a scenic drive. Because the road sits between 1,300 and 1,700 meters above sea level, it offers a sense of altitude and scale different from standard roads. For those looking to hike, the area also provides access to the shortest trail leading to the summit of Kamegamori. You can also encounter various monuments and markers related to the local topography and the origins of the Yoshino and Kamo Rivers.
The UFO Line is surrounded by famous peaks such as Mount Ishizuchi, Higashikuro-mori, and Nishikuro-mori. Accessing the route from the Kochi side via Ino Town will eventually connect you toward Ehime Prefecture to the west. You can also combine this drive with visits to other scenic spots like Menkyo Gorge to create a full day of exploration.
Since you will be driving at high altitudes, please prepare for temperature changes. Even in summer, the high altitude can feel cool, and in spring or autumn, the temperature can drop significantly.
