Keisei Rose Garden, located in Yachiyo City, Chiba Prefecture, is one of the largest rose gardens in Japan. Established in 1959, this facility is dedicated to rose cultivation and the promotion of rose culture, boasting numerous awards from international rose competitions. The vast 30,000-square-meter grounds feature more than 1,600 varieties and 10,000 rose bushes, alongside a diverse range of trees and flowers. The garden is characterized by its stunning use of rose arches, screens, and pergolas, creating a multi-dimensional landscape that changes beautifully with the seasons. It is also officially recognized as a 'Lovers' Sanctuary,' making it a highly popular destination for travelers seeking a romantic atmosphere.
Managed by Keisei Rose Gardening Co., Ltd., the garden was founded with a strong vision to develop world-class rose varieties and spread rose culture throughout Japan. In 1999, the facility was renovated into a complex area featuring a rose garden, rose shop, restaurant, garden center, and event spaces. The garden reflects deep cultural ties to Japanese art and media, featuring a terrace inspired by the famous manga 'The Rose of Versailles' and a gazebo produced by renowned bridal designer Yumi Katsura.
The garden is divided into several themed areas. The 'French Formal Garden' features geometric patterns and elegant rose screens, offering a sense of Western sophistication. In contrast, the 'English Natural Style Garden' provides a more relaxed atmosphere, where visitors can stroll among aquatic and wetland plants. The Grand Greenhouse allows you to enjoy lush greenery and tropical flowers year-round. Other photogenic landmarks include the 'Yumi's Gazebo,' the scenic views from the Rose Hill, and the magnificent 60-year-old Great Arch that appears in the spring.
There are two main seasons for roses: the 'Spring Rose' season (mid-May to early June) and the 'Autumn Rose' season (mid-October to early November). During these periods, special events like the 'Rose Festival' and 'Autumn Fair' are held. From late November to December, you can enjoy a different kind of beauty with rose hips and autumn foliage. For the best experience, visit in the morning when the soft light enhances the colors of the roses, or during an autumn evening to see the illuminated greenhouse and plants in a romantic light.
Beyond sightseeing, visitors can enjoy various activities. The Rose Shop offers rose-themed gifts and lifestyle goods, while the Garden Center sells seasonal plants. For a sophisticated break, visit the cafe 'Patio' or the restaurant 'La Rose' to enjoy tea or meals in a rose-inspired setting. The garden also hosts seasonal seminars and exhibitions for those wishing to deepen their botanical knowledge. For easier movement across the large grounds, electric-assist rental bicycles are also available at the onsite station.
Located in Yachiyo City, Chiba, the garden is surrounded by much of the natural beauty of the region. While most visitors arrive by car or bus, the area is well-connected to local residential and commercial districts, making it an excellent stop during a sightseeing trip through Chiba Prefecture.
Because the garden is quite large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please dress appropriately for the season as temperatures can fluctuate. For payments at the shops and restaurants, both cash and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) are accepted. While English signage and some English-speaking staff are available, please note that Japanese is the primary language. Photography of the scenery is permitted, but please be mindful of restrictions during specific events. If you choose to use the share-cycle station, electric-assist bicycles are available for your convenience.
