At Shinsui Park, located adjacent to Michi-no-Eki Hagi Sea Mart, you can enjoy the stunning blooms of Kawazu Sakura (Kawazu Cherry Blossoms) from late February to early March. Kawazu Sakura are known for blooming earlier than the standard Somei Yoshino variety, featuring much deeper and more vibrant pink hues. The greatest charm of this park is the expansive 1,800 m² area of cherry blossom paths where the trees are relatively low, allowing you to feel the beauty of the flowers right at eye level. It is a wonderful spot to feel the early arrival of spring in an open, refreshing seaside location.
While Kawazu Sakura originated as a specialty of Kawazu Town in Shizuoka Prefecture, they have become a beloved sightseeing attraction nationwide due to their early blooming season and striking colors. In the coastal areas of Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, these blossoms are cherished as a scenic symbol of the changing seasons. Michi-no-Eki Hagi Sea Mart serves as a central hub for local specialties and fresh seafood, and the surrounding Shinsui Park creates a landscape that lives in harmony with the local natural environment.
The park features approximately 120 Kawazu Sakura trees, creating a breathtaking landscape that looks like a pink carpet spread across the ground. Because the petals are thicker and the color is more intense than typical cherry blossoms, it is a highly popular spot for photography. Additionally, because the trees are relatively short, the environment is very accessible for small children and visitors using wheelchairs, making it easy to observe the blossoms up close. Walking through the cherry blossom paths offers a chance to fully immerse yourself in this seasonal, colorful spectacle.
The best season is typically from late February to early March. During this period, the park is enveloped in a sea of pink. We recommend visiting during the bright morning hours. The sunlight filtering through the petals enhances their translucency and brings out the most vivid colors. Visiting during the daytime also allows you to easily combine your stroll with shopping or dining at the Michi-no-Eki facility.
