The Katsuyama Preserved Streetscape is a historic area located in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture. It developed as a vital post town and castle town along the Izumo Kaido route. The landscape is defined by traditional architecture, including white-walled structures, lattice windows, and traditional storehouses (dozo). In 1985, it was designated as the first "Preserved Streetscape" in Okayama Prefecture. A unique visual charm of the area is the "Noren" (traditional fabric dividers) hung outside shops and homes, which serve as a colorful symbol of the town's identity. Today, visitors can enjoy a blend of history and modern culture by exploring various cafes, galleries, and artisan workshops housed within these historic buildings.
This region once thrived as a logistics hub utilizing the Asahi River. The remains of the Takasebune (traditional boat) docking sites serve as a reminder of its past as a vital transport route for local goods, salt, and daily necessities.
