The most striking feature of the terraces is the layered effect of the water-filled paddies. The harmony between the terraces and the surrounding mountains and forests is a major draw. The three-dimensional landscape created by the undulating terrain also makes this a highly popular spot for photography enthusiasts.
You can enjoy a completely different view depending on when you visit. Spring (around April to May) is a beautiful time when the water-filled paddies reflect the surrounding scenery. Summer brings a vibrant, energetic green landscape as the rice grows. Autumn is the harvest season, painting the terraces in brilliant gold. For the best experience, visit during the morning for soft, gentle light, or during the late afternoon when the setting sun casts long shadows that highlight the dramatic, three-dimensional texture of the terraces.

The area is gaining attention from an agritourism perspective, allowing visitors to connect with the essence of Japanese agriculture and nature. You can enjoy a peaceful walk through the surrounding environment to soak in the rural atmosphere. Kamikatsu Town offers many other charming spots, such as the famous "Leaf Business" (Irori) and various facilities that utilize the rich natural environment. Because the area is a natural, sloped landscape, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. The paths can be uneven or slippery, so please wear sneakers or trekking shoes. As this is an outdoor site, remember to bring seasonal items such as sun protection or warm layers.
