Karisu Kogen Bungeo Plum Orchard is located on a high-altitude plateau in Shintoku, Hokkaido. It is famously known as the "Miracle Orchard" because it successfully cultivates approximately 1,000 Bungeo plum trees in a cool, high-altitude environment where plum cultivation is typically considered difficult. Visitors can enjoy the sight of vast fields of plum blossoms blooming beautifully through late May.
The orchard exists thanks to a unique cultivation environment that embraces the challenging, high-altitude natural conditions. For many years, it has been cherished as a place that expresses the changing seasons through its ivory-colored blossoms, harmonizing perfectly with the local natural environment. It stands as a symbolic landscape of the region, utilizing the rich natural capital of Hokkaido.
The greatest draw is the approximately 1,000 Bungeo plum trees that reach full bloom in late May. Seeing the white and pink blossoms flourishing in the crisp, clear air of the highlands is a rare and precious sight that is difficult to experience elsewhere. The vast grounds offer a constantly changing natural landscape throughout the seasons.
The most highly recommended time to visit is late May. During this period, the Bungeo plums are in full bloom, offering the most spectacular and colorful scenery. While the orchard is open throughout the day, visiting during bright daylight hours allows you to clearly appreciate the delicate colors of the blossoms and the vibrant natural scenery.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through nature. The area is well-maintained, allowing you to walk comfortably while observing the seasonal flowers. It is a perfect place to experience a peaceful, slow-paced moment while being immersed in the high-altitude atmosphere.
The area around Shintoku is filled with the vast, grand nature typical of Hokkaido, offering excellent opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities. The region also boasts a rich food culture in the Tokachi area and many scenic driving routes. You can easily combine a visit to the orchard with other seasonal nature experiences or local sightseeing spots.
There are no shops or cafeterias located within the orchard itself. Please prepare any food or drinks in advance. If you use nearby facilities, it is highly recommended to carry cash.
English signage and guidance are limited. It is helpful to have a translation app on your smartphone ready for use.
No prior reservation is required. You can enter the orchard freely.
Because the orchard is located at a high altitude, temperatures may be lower than in the lowlands. Please bring appropriate clothing, such as a light jacket or outer layer, depending on the season. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended for strolling.
Photography of the scenery is permitted. Please follow any posted rules to help preserve the natural environment.
While there are general restrooms on-site, there are no wheelchair-accessible toilets. Please be mindful of uneven surfaces and steps while walking.
