Mt. Kanpu is a volcano standing at approximately 355 meters, located near the center of the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture. Its most striking feature is the entire mountain being covered in a beautiful, velvety layer of green grass, creating a landscape that resembles a natural green carpet. At the summit, a rotating observatory offers an unobstructed 360-degree panoramic view. To the east, you can see the reclaimed lands of Hachirogata; to the south, the sacred Mt. Chokai; to the north, the UNESCO World Heritage Shirakami-Sanchi mountains; and to the west, the Sea of Japan and the Nyudozaki Lighthouse. It is a premier spot to experience the diverse natural beauty of Akita in one place.
Mt. Kanpu was formed by volcanic activity that began approximately 30,000 years ago. The gentle, rolling shape of the mountain was created by layers of andesite lava accumulating over time. The local
