Kannon Falls is a breathtaking scenic spot located in the midstream of the Takigawa River within the Nanayama area of Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. Boasting a scale of 30 meters in height and 10 meters in width, its intense and powerful water flow has earned it the nickname "Otokotaki" (Masculine Falls). As one of the "Top 100 Waterfalls in Japan," the area is a sanctuary of biodiversity, where clear streams are home to fish like Yamame (cherry salmon) and various wild birds such as Kingfishers and White Wagtails thrive in the lush environment.
The area has long been cherished for its sublime natural beauty. The landscape is characterized by a beautiful valley where clear streams meet deep, tranquil pools. The region also holds a deep connection with nature through local traditions, such as the "International Stream & Waterfall Climbing in Nanayama" event held every August. The primary attraction of Kannon Falls is the sheer force of its descent. The sight of the water crashing down the rock face, creating a white mist, is truly spectacular. Beyond the main falls, the area features several distinct pools with unique characters. These include "Ki-gakure no Fuchi" (Hidden Tree Pool), where trees arch gracefully over the water; "Seijaku no Fuchi" (Pool of Silence), known for its deep blue waters; and "Shirakinu no Taki" (White Silk Falls), where the water drapes over the rocks like fine silk. Each spot offers a different facet of the landscape's natural artistry.
Kannon Falls offers a different charm throughout the year, especially through the changing colors of the surrounding vegetation and the varying volume of water. August is a popular time due to local events. However, please be aware that due to recent heavy rains, the walking path leading to the base of the falls is currently closed. We strongly recommend checking the latest accessibility information before your trip. Visiting during daylight hours allows for the best view of the white spray, the vibrant greenery, and the local birdlife.

Visitors can enjoy a sense of unity with nature by watching for wildlife such as Kingfishers or observing the movement of Yamame fish in the clear streams.
