Kankyo Geijutsu no Mori is a vast 10-hectare private forest located on the southwestern slopes of Mt. Sarei in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. The forest was born from a concept of stripping away man-made structures to the absolute minimum, allowing visitors to experience nature in its purest form. The grounds feature both short and long walking courses, making it an ideal destination for forest bathing and nature walks. The highlight is the autumn season, when approximately 10,000 maple trees transform the landscape into a vibrant tapestry of color, creating a stunning contrast against the sky.
The origins of this forest are deeply connected to the personal journey of its founder, Masaaki Tsuruta. In 1980, following the loss of a beloved family member to illness, Mr. Tsuruta began to reflect deeply on environmental issues and the vital importance of the air we breathe. Driven by the belief that "by planting trees and purifying the water and air, we can revitalize the soil, rivers, and seas to protect people," he transformed the mid-slope of Mt. Sarei into a living canvas of stone, earth, and wood. The name "Kankyo Geijutsu no Mori" (Forest of Environmental Art) embodies this profound wish to preserve and maintain the beauty of the natural world.
