Kanazawa Zoo, located within Kanazawa Nature Park, specializes in the care and exhibition of rare herbivores from around the world. The zoo is thoughtfully divided into four distinct zones based on animal habitats: America, Eurasia, Oceania, and Africa. The facility utilizes its hilly terrain to create a unique landscape. From the Shiinokiyama Observatory, visitors can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view looking down upon the seaside parks, Hakkejima Sea Paradise, Tokyo Bay, and even the Boso Peninsula in the distance.
Kanazawa Nature Park is a large-scale park located in southern Yokohama, surrounded by green spaces such as the Enkaizan/Kita-Kamakura Greenery Conservation Area and several community forests. The zoo within the park is designed to harmonize with the natural environment, playing a vital role in preserving the local ecosystem. The park itself has been selected as one of the "50 Parks of Kanagawa," highlighting its significant value as a local natural resource.
The zoo features four themed areas that mimic the natural habitats of various animals. In the America, Eurasia, Oceania, and Africa zones, you can observe animals native to those specific regions. For a more intimate experience, the "Honobono Plaza" allows visitors to get closer to domestic animals like ponies, goats, and sheep. Additionally, the "Nonohana-kan" museum offers educational exhibits regarding local flora and fauna.
Because the park is situated on hilly terrain, the seasonal changes in vegetation are a major draw. You can enjoy the seasonal beauty of the landscape, such as the plum and narcissus flowers in the "Ukiuki Forest" or the diverse tree species along the "Nandaro Slope." We highly recommend visiting on a clear day, as the visibility of the scenery from the observatory (including views of Tokyo Bay and Kanonosaki) changes significantly depending on the weather and time of day.
The park is well-equipped for strolls and relaxation. There are rest houses, rest areas, and the "Nonohana Cafe" and "Nonohana Gift Shop," where you can enjoy the atmosphere of the park. For easier movement, the "Koala Bus" operates a shuttle service between the Front Entrance Parking Lot and the Main Gate. For families with children, the "Kodomo Hiroba" (Children's Plaza) features various playground equipment, including athletic climbing structures and a roller slide.
Kanazawa Nature Park is adjacent to several lush green areas, including Kamariya Citizen's Forest, Kanazawa Citizen's Forest, and Torisawa Citizen's Forest. It also connects to the Rokukukoge Hiking Course, which leads from Nomiendo Greenery toward the Tenen (Rokukukoge Pass) area in Kamakura. This makes it a key part of a vast natural network for hikers and nature observers, also linking to the Yokohama Nature Observation Forest.
As the park is located on hilly terrain with various slopes and walking paths, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Regarding payments, you can use credit cards, electronic tickets, or transportation IC cards for various facilities and services. English signage and information are available at several locations. Please note there are two parking areas (Front Entrance and High-speed side); we recommend checking availability in advance during busy periods.
