Kanazawa Castle Park is a historic park located in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, centered around the former residence of the Maeda clan, the lords of the Kaga Domain. This site, once known as 'Oyama,' still breathes the advanced castle-building techniques of the Sengoku and Edo periods. Now designated as a national historic site, it is a precious spot where visitors can observe traditional Japanese architectural styles up close, such as the reconstructed Hishi Yagura (Diamond-shaped turret) and Hashizume Mon (Bridge Claw Gate). The history of this land is deep; it was originally the site of a temple called 'Oyama Gobo' which served as a center for the Ikko-ikki uprisings. Later, after Oda Nobunaga captured the area, it was rebuilt as Kanazawa Castle. The site further developed as the stronghold of the Kaga Domain after Hashiba Hideyoshi granted the castle to Maeda Toshiie. Although the castle suffered many fires throughout the Edo period, ongoing wooden reconstruction projects are currently working to preserve and pass down traditional architectural techniques to the modern era.
