Kamaike Pond is a serene lake located at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters in Otari Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture. Surrounded by a lush deciduous forest, the landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation with each passing season. In the summer, the vivid blue sky creates a stunning contrast with the lake surface, while the autumn season brings a spectacular display of red and yellow hues from the beech and maple trees. Due to its high altitude, the area remains relatively cool even during the summer months, and the abundant shade from the surrounding trees provides a comfortable environment for visitors.
The area surrounding Kamaike Pond has long been celebrated for its rich natural environment. The surrounding beech forests play a vital role in supporting the local ecosystem. Visitors may also notice a small stone shrine (Mido) near the lakeside, a testament to the historical coexistence between the local community and the natural landscape.
