The Kamegamori Bokujo Lone Cherry Blossom is a magnificent Oyamazakura (mountain cherry) located in Tashiro, Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture. Situated at an altitude of 800m, the tree stands approximately 6 meters tall. What makes this tree truly remarkable is its natural strength; it grows without any artificial supports or pillars, spreading its branches wide to withstand the wind and snow through its own power. The tree is characterized by its large, deep crimson-colored blossoms that bloom brilliantly from early to mid-May.
Historically, this location has served as a landmark for local fishermen and is regarded as a sacred mountain. A shrine sits atop the 800m plateau, offering breathtaking views of Miyako City and the Pacific Ocean. This site is also recognized as one of the locations in the 'Sakura no Satsudo' (Cherry Blossom Pilgrimage) within the Tohoku Dream Cherry Blossom Route.
The primary attraction is the sight of the solitary Oyamazakura standing proudly and independently. The way it spreads its branches in its natural, unadorned state creates a powerful and awe-inspiring landscape. Visitors can witness the vibrant, deep red hues of the blossoms unfolding during the first half of May.
The best time to visit is from early to mid-May. Visiting during this window allows you to fully appreciate the unique, intense coloration characteristic of the Oyamazakura. As this is a natural landscape, there are no official opening or closing hours.
The main activity is sightseeing and nature photography. Due to its high altitude, the site offers a harmonious view where the cherry tree blends perfectly with the surrounding topography and distant scenery.
The tree is located within the Kamegamori Bokujo (a private ranch). The high-altitude setting provides an expansive environment with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
