Kamayahama Beach is a beautiful coastal destination located in Mitane Town, Yamamoto District, Akita Prefecture. It has been officially recognized by the Ministry of the Environment as one of "Japan's 100 Best Water Bathing Places," a testament to its exceptionally clean and refreshing waters. The beach is also widely celebrated as a premier "Sunset Beach," attracting visitors who wish to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets in the region.
The area has a long-standing history of being a beloved spot for sea bathing and outdoor leisure amidst its rich natural environment. In 2006, the beach's high water quality and the successful preservation of its natural environment were officially recognized when it was selected for the "100 Best Water Bathing Places in Japan" list. This recognition highlights the community's commitment to maintaining a high-quality natural resource for both locals and tourists.
The most striking feature of Kamayahama Beach is its unique landscape. Along the coastline, large wind turbines stand prominently, creating a distinctive view where renewable energy technology meets the natural beauty of the sea. As evening approaches, the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors, making it an ideal spot for photography and relaxation. Additionally, during the last weekend of July, the area hosts the "Sandcraft in Mitane" event, where visitors can enjoy impressive sand sculptures and other seasonal festivities.
As a seasonal beach, the area is primarily active during the summer months. The best time to visit is from June to August. To experience the full charm of the location, we recommend visiting during the daytime for swimming or during the late afternoon to witness the spectacular sunset.
Visitors can enjoy various leisure activities such as picnics and swimming. It is common to see people using parasols and tents to relax on the sand. Depending on the time of your visit, you might also experience the unique sand sculpture displays that occur during summer events.
The Mitane area is dotted with various sightseeing spots related to local nature and regional specialties. It is a wonderful region to explore alongside other nearby attractions like Hachirogata, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Akita Prefecture.
When visiting for swimming, please bring appropriate gear such as swimwear, sandals, and sun protection (parasols or tents). Please note that cash is often required for nearby facilities or local transportation. While some signage may be available, English language support is limited in the area. Since the beach facilities are seasonal, please plan your visit during the summer months. For photography, while capturing the scenery is encouraged, please be mindful of other visitors.
