Kakitagawa Park, located in Shimizu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a stunning park nurtured by the abundant spring water of Mount Fuji. The Kakitagawa River flowing through the park is a designated National Natural Monument and is celebrated as one of the 'Three Greatestest Clear Streams in Japan.' The pristine spring water, which filters through layers of volcanic rock from Mount Fuji and emerges at the surface over many years, is a true masterpiece of nature. Within the park, you can observe the 'spring vents' where crystal-clear water continuously wells up, providing a sense of profound refreshment and healing to all who visit.
The source of the Kakitagawa River lies in the porous layers of the 'Mishima Lava Flow' caused by the eruptions of Mount Fuji. Rain and snow falling on Mount Fuji become groundwater, traveling through the gaps in these lava layers for approximately 26 to 28 years before emerging as the rich spring water seen today. This pure water has supported local life since ancient times. Historically, even textile factories utilized these springs as wells. Today, the water remains an essential resource for the local community, used for drinking water, industrial purposes, and agriculture. A deep respect for these natural blessings remains rooted in the local culture.

The greatest attraction of the park is the view of the spring vents from the 1st and 2nd observation decks. The sight of water constantly surging upward is awe-inspiring. The way sunlight reflects off the surface to create the mystical, glowing blue water—known as the 'Blue Hole'—is a popular photogenic spot that changes expression depending on the time of day. You can also observe white pebbles dancing in the water; these pebbles are said to have originated from an eruption approximately 3,200 years ago. Additionally, the park features well-maintained walking paths (Yatsuhashi) that allow you to feel the riverside nature up close.
While Kakitagawa Park offers beautiful scenery year-round, it is particularly popular in the summer as travelers seek a sense of 'coolness.' Because the water temperature remains stable, it is an ideal spot for a refreshing stroll during hot months. The scenery also changes with the time of day. During bright daylight hours, the sunlight interacts with the high transparency of the water to create a sparkling, brilliant surface. Conversely, the calm morning and evening hours offer a more serene and quiet atmosphere. We recommend visiting to enjoy the changing greenery of the seasons and the shifting play of light.

There are many ways to connect with nature here. Beyond viewing the scenery from the observation decks, you can visit the Spring Water Plaza to actually dip your feet in the water and feel the invigorating chill of the spring. It is a luxurious way to experience the direct energy of nature. The surrounding area also features the 'Spring Water Path,' which is perfect for a mindful walking tour while listening to the sounds of the water. It is an excellent destination for nature observation and landscape photography.
Near the park is the 'Shimizu Elementary School Teaching Garden,' a place where children can observe nature and experience the seasonal changes of the environment. Other nearby spots like Maruike Park and Honjoyama Park also offer wonderful opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the Shimizu area, making for a more comprehensive nature-filled itinerary.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and walking shoes suitable for light trekking. Benches are available throughout the park for resting. To protect the environment, please take all trash home with you and refrain from any actions that might harm the spring water environment. Please note that while parking is available, advanced reservations are not accepted.
