The Kanmon Kaikyo Fireworks Display is a large-scale event held on both sides of the Kanmon Strait. Originally a local event for Shimonoseki City, it has been established as a major event for the entire Kanmon district since 1988. Because fireworks are launched from both shores simultaneously, spectators enjoy an expansive and immersive view of the display.

The festival began in 1985. While it started as a single-city event in Shimonoseki, it has evolved into a significant regional event for the Kanmon area. At one point, it was developed as the "Asia Port Festival in KANMON," reflecting its role as a culturally significant event deeply rooted in the local community.

The most distinctive feature is the simultaneous launch of fireworks from both sides of the Kanmon Strait. The sparks rising from both shores create a unique visual experience that integrates the fireworks with the natural scenery of the strait.
