Kaikyo Yume Tower is a landmark observation tower located along the Kanmon Straits in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The tower features a spherical observation deck at its peak, offering a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view. The greatest charm of this facility is the ability to gaze down upon the vast expanse of the Seto Inland Sea, the Kanmon Straits, and the Sea of Japan from a high vantage point.
This facility was established as a landmark for the Kanmon Straits. Its design harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding landscape, making it a symbol of the local area. From the observation deck, visitors can look out over the scenery that has served as a significant historical stage, serving as a place where nature and history intersect.

The most striking feature is the spherical observation deck, which consists of a three-layered structure. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide an unobstructed view of the horizon. From here, you can observe the landscape connecting Kyushu and Honshu across the Kanmon Straits, the silhouette of the historic Ganryujima Island, and the beautiful color gradients of the Seto Inland Sea stretching toward the horizon. At night, the area is beautifully illuminated, offering a spectacular night view.
The expression of the straits changes significantly depending on the time of day. During the daytime, you can enjoy the beautiful contrast between the blue sky and the blue sea. At dusk, the sunset over the Hibiki-nada Sea creates a deeply emotional and picturesque atmosphere. At night, a glittering cityscape spreads across the straits. While the start time for illumination varies by season, it typically begins around 19:00 during January, April, July, October, and November, and around 19:30 during February, May, August, and September. The views can be enjoyed until 21:30.
Visitors travel to the observation deck via an elevator that allows you to enjoy the changing scenery as you ascend. As you rise toward the top, you can experience the dynamism of the straits from a perspective entirely different from the ground level. Additionally, the surrounding area occasionally hosts seasonal events and activities for children.
The area around the tower is a major tourism hub for Shimonoseki City. Nearby facilities, such as Kaikyo Messe Shimonoseki, allow you to enjoy sightseeing alongside the beautiful coastal scenery. For those traveling by car, the area is highly accessible with both Indoor Parking (No. 1) and Outdoor Parking (No. 2) available.
Since the scenery changes based on weather and time, we recommend sun protection for daytime visits and clothing suited for temperature changes for evening visits. If using the parking lots, please note that a 2-hour parking service voucher is available at the Indoor Parking (No. 1). Large vehicles should use the Outdoor Parking (No. 2). Within the facility, please observe general etiquette to ensure a quiet and pleasant experience for all visitors enjoying the view.
