Kida Kogen Mia Ski Resort is a premier destination located in Kiso Town, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture. The name "MIA" is derived from the Latin phrase "Memoria In Aeterna," meaning "Forever in Memory." Reaching an altitude of 2,120m at its highest point, the resort is renowned for producing some of the highest quality powder snow in Japan due to its low temperatures. Beyond the winter season, the area transforms into the "Shinshu Kida Kogen Mia Green Field," a beautiful campsite where visitors can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the highlands during the summer months.
The resort was established in December 1996 through the third-sector company "Kida Kogen Development Co., Ltd.," backed by Nagano Prefecture, the former Kida Village, and Shimizu Corporation. Following changes in management in 2002 and subsequent transfers of operating rights, the resort is currently managed under its present structure. It has long been a beloved destination for both passionate skiers and outdoor enthusiasts deeply rooted in the local community.
The ski area features 6 distinct courses with a maximum continuous descent of 3,200m, catering to everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Specific courses include the Jumbo Foot Slopes (North and South), the Foxie Course, and the Prima Course (suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers), as well as the Sky High Course and Blue Diamond Course (designed for intermediate to advanced skiers). On weekends, a dedicated kids' area with a moving walkway is also available. The resort is equipped with three lifts: the 1st High-Speed Quad Lift, the 2nd High-Speed Pair Lift, and the 3rd Pair Lift (currently out of service).
During the winter season (December to March), the focus is on skiing and snowboarding through deep powder snow. Even in late March, you can often experience high-quality snow with beautiful powder drifts. In the summer (July to October), the campsite opens, offering a cool highland environment for camping. The area is also an exceptional spot for stargazing at night due to the clear mountain air. Please note that ski operations are during daylight hours only, and there are no night skiing sessions.
In winter, enjoy high-speed runs on skis or snowboards. In summer, the resort offers a full camping experience with both partitioned sites and free auto-camping sites available for cars, trailers, or campervans. The ground surface consists of grass and soil, allowing for a true connection with nature.
The resort features a center house and dining facilities, including the "Symphony" restaurant and the "TEE HORN" rotating rest house. The surrounding Kida Kogen area provides a serene atmosphere perfect for a relaxing mountain getaway.
For winter sports, heavy-duty thermal clothing and windproof layers are essential. For summer camping, bring clothing that can adapt to the rapid temperature changes typical of the highlands. The resort offers 1,000 free parking spaces available 24 hours a day. If traveling by public transport, please check the availability of shuttle buses from JR Kiso-Fukushima Station.
