Kaichu-doro (Sea Road) is a spectacular 4.75km roadway that stretches from the Katchery Peninsula in Uruma City, Okinawa, connecting the islands of Henza, Hamahig, Miyagi, and Ikei. This road is famous for its open, breathtaking views, as it runs directly over the ocean. The bridge is designed with a relatively low height, allowing drivers to feel as though they are gliding just above the surface of the sea. Before this road was built, residents of these islands had to rely on walking through shallow waters during low tide or using small boats during high tide. The opening of this road in 1972 revolutionized local life, and it was expanded to two lanes in 1999. From the nearby Yabuchi Bridge, you can also enjoy the view of the illuminated road at night.
