Tsukuba Expo Science Park is a vast, expansive park located in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Themed around the fusion of nature and science, the park offers an incredibly open and airy atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for relaxation. With its beautiful ponds and wide-open lawn areas, visitors can easily escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy a peaceful moment in nature.
The park was developed on the site of the 1985 International Science and Technology Exhibition (Tsukuba Expo '85). It carries a rich history tied to the advancement of science and technology, preserving the memories of that era while serving today as a beloved community space filled with lush greenery and natural beauty.

The most iconic landmark is the "Science Gate," a structure standing 10 meters tall. This unique gate changes its appearance depending on the angle from which you view it, serving as a striking centerpiece for the park. Additionally, the park features beautiful ponds and an iris garden where you can enjoy the changing colors of the seasons. The vast lawn areas provide an unobstructed view of the sky, creating a sense of profound openness and freedom.
While the park is beautiful year-round, the period from spring to summer is particularly stunning as the greenery becomes vibrant and the iris garden and ponds come to life. During the bright daylight hours, the reflections on the water and the lush greenery make it an excellent spot for photography. At dusk, the entire park is bathed in a soft, gentle light, creating a very calm and serene atmosphere.

Visitors can immerse themselves in nature by strolling around the perimeter of the ponds or relaxing on the expansive lawns. For those looking to stay active, the park also features all-weather tennis courts, allowing you to enjoy sports regardless of the weather. It is a wonderful place to spend quality time with family or friends while reconnecting with the natural world.
Tsukuba is renowned as a "Science City," a hub for many prestigious research institutions. The area surrounding the park is dotted with facilities related to science and technology, allowing you to experience the historical significance of the region while sightseeing. The rich natural environment of the Tsukuba area makes this park a perfect addition to any local travel itinerary.

Because the park is quite large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. To ensure a comfortable visit, bring a hat for sun protection and sufficient drinking water. If you plan to use the tennis courts, please bring appropriate sports attire and equipment. Please respect the park rules and help preserve the natural environment for all visitors.
