Jyozan-en is a space designed to recreate the life and legacy of Ishikawa Jozan, an influential scholar of the early Edo period, and the aesthetic of the Shisen-do temple he built in Kyoto. Located in Izumi-cho, Anjo City, the garden is a sophisticated blend of Karayo-style gardens, stroll gardens with central ponds, and Horai-style landscapes. Every corner of the garden and the Shien-kaku pavilion reflects Jozan's artistic sensibilities, allowing visitors to feel a deep connection to traditional Japanese aesthetics.
The garden was established to honor the history of Anjo City, the birthplace of Ishikawa Jozan, and to pass down his spiritual and cultural legacy. The design incorporates elements from Shisen-do and other historic gardens associated with Jozan. Inside the Shien-kaku pavilion, you can observe historical paintings, calligraphy, and the unique 'Shifuku' style of clerical script that Jozan is said to have utilized, providing a visual and intellectual understanding of his cultural-historical background.
The garden is designed as a stroll garden centered around a pond, where the scenery shifts beautifully with every step you take. It features a harmonious combination of Karayo-style and Horai-style garden elements, with stone monuments featuring Chinese poetry placed throughout the grounds. In the Shien-kaku pavilion, visitors can enjoy a space filled with cultural exhibits and a profound sense of history. The changing colors of the plants and the reflections on the water surface are essential elements of the experience.
The garden offers distinct and beautiful landscapes across all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. We highly recommend visiting during times when the greenery is lush or when the seasonal transitions are most striking. During bright daylight hours, you can clearly observe the vibrant colors of the garden reflected in the pond and the intricate shapes of the plants.
Visitors can enjoy 'Teicha' (tea service), where you can enjoy a bowl of tea accompanied by seasonal Japanese sweets. Depending on the season, the garden also hosts special events such as reflection photography workshops, sand pattern (samon) drawing experiences, and special exhibitions. These activities offer a deeper way to understand Japanese cultural techniques and the philosophy of beauty beyond simple sightseeing.

As there are some uneven surfaces within the garden, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please note the following regarding payments and facilities:
