Jogakura Ohashi is a magnificent even-deck arch bridge located in Aomori Prefecture, celebrated as one of the most impressive structures of its kind in Japan. With a total length of 360 meters and a height of 122 meters, the bridge creates a highly dynamic silhouette as it spans a sheer cliff. From the bridge, a sweeping panoramic view unfolds, allowing visitors to gaze upon the Hakkoda Mountain Range, the city of Aomori, and even Mount Iwaki in the distance. The sight of the Jogakura Stream flowing through the lush natural landscape below creates a perfect harmony between human engineering and natural beauty.
The surrounding region is characterized by its rugged terrain and a climate that has preserved its untouched natural beauty for centuries. The area where Jogakura Ohashi stands is a place where the wilderness remains pristine, shaped by steep cliffs and dense forests. The bridge utilizes an even-deck arch structure, serving not just as a functional crossing but as a significant regional landmark that showcases the scale and engineering prowess of the area.

The greatest draw is the expansive view accessible from the bridge. The scenery changes dramatically with the seasons; during the autumn season, the mountainsides are painted in a vibrant palette of reds and yellows, creating a breathtaking panorama. In winter, the area transforms into a serene, white wonderland of snow. To accommodate visitors, parking spaces and rest areas are located at both ends of the bridge, allowing travelers to stop their vehicles and soak in the view at their leisure.
Jogakura Ohashi offers a different face to every visitor throughout the year. Autumn (around October to November) is the peak season for breathtaking foliage, attracting many photographers and tourists. In summer, you can enjoy the refreshing greenery, while winter offers a mystical, snow-covered landscape. Please note that during the winter months, road closures may occur at night due to heavy snowfall, so it is highly recommended to check local traffic conditions before traveling.

The best way to experience this location is through a scenic drive. Most visitors use the parking areas at either end of the bridge to step out, breathe the fresh mountain air, and admire the scale of the surrounding nature. Please be aware that walking down to the actual stream is strictly prohibited due to the dangerous terrain. Instead, focus your attention on the magnificent views from the bridge and the designated observation points.
The area surrounding Jogakura Ohashi is rich in natural resources. There are nearby hot spring (onsen) facilities where you can relax after your drive. Since the area is primarily accessible by car, it is most commonly enjoyed as a highlight of a larger driving tour through the Aomori region.
As the weather in this high-altitude area can change rapidly, please prepare clothing suitable for the current season (especially heavy thermal wear for winter). While parking is available at both ends of the bridge, spaces are limited, so please plan your travel time accordingly. As a reminder, walking in the stream area is prohibited; please enjoy the scenery from the designated paths and observation points to ensure safety and preserve the environment.
