The history of Jion-ji dates back to the 8th century (the 18th year of the Tenpyo era), when it was founded by an Indian monk. Although the scale of the precinct decreased after the Meiji era, the 'Jion-ji Former Precincts' remains a designated National Historic Site, preserving its immense historical value and its long-standing role in supporting regional faith and culture.
