Located near Katsunuma Budo-kyo Station on the JR Chuo Main Line, Jinroku Sakura is a beloved destination that draws crowds every spring. Directly in front of the station, a wide plaza is surrounded by approximately 1,000 cherry trees. These trees are carefully nurtured by the local "Jinroku-kai" community, ensuring the beauty of the landscape year after year. Because the area sits on an elevated position, visitors can enjoy a stunning panoramic view that combines the seasonal cherry blossoms with the vast landscapes of the Kofu Basin and the Southern Alps. During the evening, the trees are illuminated, revealing a completely different, magical atmosphere than during the day.
The name "Jinroku Sakura" is derived from the "Jinroku-kai," a local group of successors from the Hishiyama district dedicated to preserving and cultivating the cherry trees. These blossoms are a cherished part of the local culture and represent the heritage of the Katsunima area. Furthermore, the station area contains elements of railway heritage, reflecting the region's history. Even the renaming of the station to "Katsunuma Budo-kyo Station" highlights the local identity, which is deeply connected to the famous grape-growing culture of the region.
Upon exiting the station to the left, you will find a park that showcases railway heritage. A preserved electric locomotive is on display here, making it a fascinating spot for railway enthusiasts and families with children. The cherry blossom-lined paths create an overwhelming sense of beauty during peak bloom.
