Jet Coaster Road (Jet Coaster no Saka) is a famous stretch of road located on West 11-sen in Kamifurano, Hokkaido. The name comes from the way the road undulates over rolling hills, creating a sensation similar to a roller coaster ride. The road is a straight path approximately 2.5 kilometers long (the total length including sections that may be closed in winter is about 4.2 km). With a maximum elevation difference of about 65 meters, the northern half of the road provides a particularly thrilling experience with three major rises and falls.
This area is a significant part of the Tokachidake Geopark. The road is built upon undulating terrain known as wavy hills (undulating topography). This natural landscape provides drivers with a unique visual and physical sensation, making the road a symbol of the region's distinctive geological features.

The greatest draw is the continuous sequence of ups and downs experienced while driving. In the northern section, you can experience three major vertical movements caused by the terrain. As you drive, you will also enjoy breathtaking views of the Tokachi Mountain Range, showcasing the vast, grand landscapes typical of Hokkaido. The constant change between open vistas and moments where the horizon is obscured by the terrain makes the drive truly captivating.
The road is accessible from March through October. For the best experience, visiting during a clear day is highly recommended to fully enjoy the scenery through your car window. Please be aware that during the winter, the road surface may be icy or snow-covered, requiring extra caution. While the scenery changes with the seasons, the road is generally accessible year-round, subject to weather conditions.
The primary way to enjoy this spot is through a scenic drive. Because it is a straight road, the landscape shifts rapidly, providing a unique sensation of movement. You can also use the small parking areas along the roadside to take photographs with the majestic Tokachi Mountain Range in the background. However, please remember that this is a functional roadway; always ensure you are in a safe, designated area before stopping to take photos.
The area is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Tokachidake Geopark and serves as a gateway to famous tourist destinations like Biei and Furano. You can easily incorporate this drive into a larger itinerary exploring the natural wonders of Hokkaido.
As this is a public road, there are no specific entrance fees or dress codes. However, it is wise to dress for changing weather. While there are no fees for the road itself, please carry cash or cards if you plan to visit nearby facilities. English signage is limited, so we recommend using a GPS or digital map. Strictly avoid entering nearby farmland or private property. For your safety, please drive carefully and avoid excessive speed, especially in areas with limited visibility.
