Imamura Castle Ruins is a historic site located on Mount Shiroyama (713m altitude) in Ena City, Gifu Prefecture. It is recognized as one of the 'Three Great Mountain Castles of Japan,' alongside Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and Takatoru Castle. The site offers a profound sense of the past through its massive stone walls designed to utilize the steep terrain, the original castle paths, and various historical structures within the castle ruins park.
This location served as a vital stronghold for the Imamura Clan. As a mountain castle built at a high altitude, its defensive structures were masterfully integrated into the natural topography. The surrounding castle town preserves the atmosphere of the Edo period, with traditional buildings and local museums scattered throughout the area, maintaining a unified historical landscape between the castle ruins and the town below.
Within the castle ruins park, you can find significant historical structures such as the Taiko-yagura (drum tower), the Shimoda Utako Study Hall, and the Chishinkan.
