Iwama Chinka-bashi is a famous 'submersible bridge' (chinka-bashi) located in the middle reaches of the Shimanto River in Kochi Prefecture. A 'chinka-bashi' is a traditional Japanese river structure designed to be partially submerged during floods to prevent structural damage. While there were periods when vehicle access was restricted, as of April 2021, the restrictions were lifted, and the bridge is once again open to both vehicles and pedestrians.
