Located at the eastern edge of the Osaka Plain at the foot of Mount Ikoma, Ishikiri Tsurugiya Shrine is a place deeply beloved by locals, who affectionately call it 'Ishikiri-san.' The shrine is characterized by its immense divine power, symbolized by its name. It is said that the deity's power is so great that it can slice through and penetrate even the hardest rocks. The history of Ishikiri Tsurugiya Shrine is profound, maintaining traditional Shinto rituals that have been passed down through generations. The name 'Ishikiri Tsurugiya' itself reflects the divine power capable of cleaving through solid stone. As a site where the harshness of nature meets sacred divinity, the shrine has played a vital role in the spiritual life of the local community for centuries.
The most famous aspects of the shrine are the 'Gokaji' and 'Hyakudo-mairi' rituals. Gokaji is a traditional esoteric healing ritual unique to this shrine, used for generations to protect and heal. Hyakudo-mairi is a traditional practice of repetitive prayer that embodies the spirit of sincere devotion. These are not merely tourist attractions but are the very core of the spiritual culture preserved here.
While the shrine grounds are open 24 hours a day for general visits, please be mindful of the specific operating hours for the amulet shop (Juyosho) and the ritual services. The reception hours for Gokapi and formal prayers at the main shrine (Honsha) are from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM (excluding the 9th, 19th, and 29th of each month). Please note that the Kami-no-Yashiro shrine's amulet shop is closed on the 9th, 19th, and 29th. It is highly recommended to check the schedule in advance as ritual times may change.
Visitors can request various types of formal prayers (Gokito) based on their specific needs. These include prayers for recovery from illness, family safety, physical health, business prosperity, traffic safety, academic success, and easy childbirth. The tradition of praying for healing is particularly well-known here, providing a rare opportunity to experience authentic Japanese spiritual practices.

When visiting, please follow standard Japanese shrine etiquette. While the grounds are open 24/7, ritual services must be requested during designated hours. For formal prayers (Hatsuho-ryo), fees typically range from 5,000 JPY for one week to 15,000 JPY for three weeks. For long-term prayers (6 months to 1 year), fees are higher. Please dress modestly and respectfully. When taking photos, please be mindful of ongoing rituals and follow any local instructions or signs.
