The Isedotai Loess Site is a significant archaeological site located in Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture, representing the late Jomon period. It is recognized as a component part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, "The Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan." The site's most striking feature is the presence of four distinct stone circles (stone alignments). The discovery of multiple stone circles of this scale is extremely rare, making it an invaluable resource for understanding the spiritual beliefs and social structures of the people living at that time.
This site is believed to have been a place for rituals and ceremonies approximately 4,000 years ago during the late Jomon period. To protect the stone preservation, the outdoor portions of the site are closed during the winter season from November to mid-April.
